Preparation work
Remember when painting your zinc or aluminium coated steel roof, preparation is the key! The first thing you will have to do is, remove all down pipes. Next, you will need to clean down your roof with Shieldcoat’s Mouldshield C and a pressure washer that preferably has a pressure of at least 3000 psi.
Preparation coatings
It is most important to assess the condition of your zinc or aluminium coated steel roof before you purchase your preparation and finish products to ensure a long lasting durable finish on your metal roof. Apply Rustseal to badly rusted areas and allow at least 24 hours to dry before applying your sealer coat. If there are any lightly rusted sections, then they need to be prepared either by cleaning down with a wire brush and applying a coat of Rustshield W or Rustshield T over the whole roof and let dry for at least 24 hours. If sections of the zinc or aluminium coated steel roof is in a very poor condition it may be best to replace that area of your roof. If it is a new factory painted roof then you will need to apply a coat of Shieldseal W plus to the roof prior to applying you finish coats.
Finish coatings
Once you have applied your sealer to your zinc or aluminium coated steel roof then you can apply your two coats of Roofbond Roofing Paint.
Important Information
We encourage you to take roof safety seriously as it is often not given enough consideration by inexperience tradesmen or DIY. Importantly, wear a respirator when doing roof restoration work and it is recommended to have fall arrest equipment (safety harness/scaffolding).
Final word
Down pipes can be fitted 7 days after you have finished the job and now it is safe to collect your drinking water.
