Shieldcoat’s ALFRESCO Fine Sand is a premixed polymer/acrylic render that is designed to go on most wall substrates. ALFRESCO Fine Sand comes in 15 litre pails is easy to use and washes up in water.
Were would I use ALFRESCO Fine Sand?
Shieldcoat’s ALFRESCO Fine Sand is usually a finish coat over ALFRESCO Medium Sand, ALFRESCO Graincoat and DAUDEAT High Build to give a flexible and very fine gained finish similar to cement render finish. ALFRESCO Fine Sand is a water based acrylic render that can go straight onto substrates such as Blueboard (fibre cement base sheet), texture base cement sheet, Styrofoam, polystyrene foam, Hebel, bricks and cement block. However, you would normally use ALFRESCO Medium Sand, ALFRESCO Graincoat or DAUDEAT High Build as the base coat, depending on the surface and then if you require a fine finish then you would apply ALFRESCO Fine Sand as the finish coat.
How good is ALFRESCO Fine Sand?
Shieldcoat has chosen a specific resin for ALFRESCO Fine Sand, the resin’s characteristics including excellent bonding characteristics, great durability, very good colour fastness, flexible once it dries and washes up in water. Shieldcoat uses such high quality resins that the ALFRESCO range does not need a clear sealer over the finish coat to protect it from the harsh Australian environment like some other brands of acrylic renders require. Fine Sand can be applied by a steel trowel. These characteristics in Shieldcoat’s ALFRESCO Fine Sand give it excellent longevity and you great value for your money!

There are many varying surfaces and situations that ALFRESCO Fine Sand can be used on, so you want to be sure you use the right products and preparation so you get the best finish and good longevity out of your acrylic render finish.

Even though other brands recommend applying a finish coat of clear over to top of their acrylic renders, such as Rockcote.
There is no need for the clear coat to be applied as a final coat over the ALFRESCO Fine Sand as the binder ratio is much higher, resulting in a much better gloss levels and longer colour fastness. In fact, the ALFRESCO range holds their colour and gloss for much longer than roof paint does, which has a warranty for 10 years.
